A research project led by Dr Marta Dueñas from the Mix Unit between CIEMAT and I+12, comprising molecular biologists, as well as urologists and oncologist from the 12 de Octubre University Hospital, in collaboration with the research groups of Núria Malats and Francisco X. Real from CNIO/CIBERONC, has been recently awarded in the 2019 edition of the Health Start program from Madri+d. BlaDimiR is a non-invasive diagnostic and monitoring test/tool/system based on the detection of miRNA molecules in urine of patients, which has shown a diagnostic accuracy of over 90% in patients with a suspicion of bladder cancer. At present, a novel electronic device is in development in collaboration with Up Devices and Technologies S.L. The main goal of this project is to further improve bladder cancer diagnosis of both primary and recurrent tumors through a non-invasive test using liquid biopsy based on urine samples to ultimately provide a better life quality for the patients.
